The NDIS:
Provides Funding:
The NDIS provides funding for supports and services, including things like mobility equipment, assistive technology, and personal care.
Promotes Choice and Control:
Participants have control over how their funding is used and who provides their supports.
Connects to Services:
The NDIS helps people with disability connect with community and other government services.
Aims to Improve Lives:
The ultimate goal of the NDIS is to help people with disability to live more independent and fulfilling lives.
Understanding how NDIS works helps you make the most of your plan:
How it Works
Eligibility:
To be eligible, you must have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to participate in everyday activities.
Planning:
If you are eligible, you will work with the NDIA to create a personalized NDIS plan that outlines your goals and the supports you need.
Support:
Your NDIS plan provides funding that you can use to purchase the goods and services approved in your plan.
Implementation:
The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) manages the NDIS, including processing applications and working with participants to create and manage their plans.
NDIS eligibility is based on a few key points.
You usually need to:
Live in Australia and be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a
Protected Special Category Visa.
Be under 65 years of age when you apply.
Have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to do
everyday activities by yourself.
Or, you may be eligible for early intervention if supports now could reduce your future support needs.
If you’re unsure, we can help you understand your options and what evidence you might need.
To apply, you must meet age and residency requirements, and have a permanent and significant disability or a developmental delay.
You can apply by calling the NDIS on 1800 800 110, contacting your Local Area Coordinator (LAC), or downloading the Access Request Form from the NDIS website and submitting it by email or post.
Short stays away from home, such as our Out4Adventure camping trips, (sometimes called respite). STA can help you try new experiences, build independence, give carers a break, strengthen daily living skills and learn other fun skills.
Support to get out, join Out4Adventure day events, local activities, attend appointments, try hobbies in our Cre8Hub, or learn travel skills, helping you feel connected and confident in your community.
Respectful assistance with personal routines (showering, dressing, grooming), meal preparation, domestic assistance, and safe mobility.
Individual mentoring to build life skills with Stones Education and Able2Learn such as budgeting, cooking, fitness, communication, problem-solving, and confidence.
For participants who enjoy the outdoors, we can integrate safe, goal-aligned activities like walking, light hiking, or local outings to support wellbeing and engagement with our Out4Adventure day trips.
Not sure what you can use your plan for?

You can also start implementing your plan by attending therapy sessions, acquiring assistive technology, or engaging in community activities as outlined in the plan.
